ASTM A407 Standard

Steel wire, cold drawn, for spiral type spring.

This standard establishes the specifications of round wire, cold drawn, with properties and quality intended for the manufacture of steel springs for upholstery types:

  • Type A - Spiral (Marshall Type).
  • Type B - Spiral and knotted.
  • Type C - Spiral and knotted (Offset type).
  • Type D - Spiral and hook (single and cross spiral).
  • Type E - Spiral and hook (regular and low resistance).
  • Type F - Spiral and hook (regular and low resistance).
  • Type G - Regular link.
  • Type H - Automatic linking.

These types of upholstery springs are used for the manufacture of spring units for beds, mattresses, furniture cushions and automobile seats. This type of wire is not suitable for the manufacture of mechanical springs.

JIS G3521 Standard

This is a Japanese industry standard that specifies hard drawn steel wires.

1. Standards applicable to this standard are as follows:

  • JIS G3506 High carbon steel rods.
  • JIS Z2241 Tensile test method for metallic materials.

2. The International Standards corresponding to the present standard are the following:

  • ISO 3458-1: 1989 Steel wire for mechanical springs.
  • ISO 3458-2: 1989 Steel wire for mechanical springs.
